Pure Rules Gaunlet
Six competitors will partake in the Pure Rules Gauntlet match. When one wrestler is defeated, another will take their place until all six wrestlers have competed. The last man standing will win the match. No competitors will be announced ahead of the match. The landscape of the Pure Division shifted on Sunday night as Josh Woods became the new ROH Pure Champion. He defeated Jonathan Gresham, who has held the belt since it was reinstated last fall.
The rules for pure matches are as follows. Each wrestler is given three rope breaks per match. Once all three have been used, a wrestler can be pinned or submitted while holding or under the ring ropes. No closed first strikes are allowed to the head. If one is used, a warning will be issued. The second closed fist to the head will end the match in a disqualification. In past Pure Gauntlets, a wrestler’s rope breaks have not reset when a new opponent enters the ring. This means that competitors will want to conserve the rope breaks, as one wrestler will have up to five opponents in the match.
Pure Rules Match: Mike Bennett vs. Rhett Titus
Rhett Titus challenged Jonathan Gresham for the ROH Pure title unsuccessfully at Glory by Honor. He now sits at number five in the rankings and is looking to crawl back into the top three to gain another shot at the title. Mike Bennett is currently ranked number five in the Pure rankings. He also unsuccessfully challenged Gresham for the title at Best in the World. Bennett has a victory in a Pure Gauntlet match and is also looking to gain in the rankings. The winner of this match will move up in the rankings and will be one step closer to challenging Josh Woods for the title. Find out who is victorious at ROH TV #522
