#1: Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho – Royal Rumble 2001
When Chris Benoit defended the Intercontinental Championship against Chris Jericho in a Ladder Match, it was the culmination of their on-and-off feud in 2000. Their Ladder Match is regarded as one of their greatest matches, not only against each other, but in their wrestling careers. There was so much intensity in this match as they were exchanging finishers and submissions. The move exchanges were just getting started.
Later in the match, Benoit and Jericho used the ladder in creative ways. The biggest spot of the night was when Jericho locked Benoit in a modified version of the “Walls of Jericho” on top of the ladder. At that moment, it was all about racing to get to the top of the ladder while using their aggressive style of wrestling.
Eventually, Jericho gained the momentum by knocking Benoit off the ladder. This led to Jericho climbing to retrieve the Intercontinental Title to earn the victory.
