#3: Edge vs. William Regal – Royal Rumble 2002
When the Invasion storyline with WWE came to an end, William Regal wanted his job back with WWE. Due to Regal betraying WWE to jump ship to The Alliance, he knew asking for rehirement wouldn’t be an easy task. For Regal to rejoin WWE, Mr. McMahon gave him the condition that he had to kiss his behind. With Regal reluctantly doing so, he became more aggressive in the ring.
Regal’s aggression and momentum led him to challenge Edge for the Intercontinental Championship. At first, Edge gained the upper hand at Vengeance. The second time Regal and Edge went at it, the outcome was a little different.
At the Royal Rumble, Regal and Edge went at it once again. Regal used his technical wrestling style as an advantage. Regal’s technical wrestling and Edge’s grounded/dive attack moves gelled well together. Edge pulled a comeback in the match, but Regal unfortunately gained the upper hand. Regal cheated by directly knocking out Edge with brass knuckles, a weapon Regal began using when he developed his in-ring dominance.
