WWE and AAA Lucha Libre have been delivering exceptional entertainment for wrestling fans and wrestlers alike. WWE Worlds Collide has provided a platform for many AAA performers to gain mainstream recognition, while WWE superstars have made their presence felt in AAA, leading to exciting matches. Recently, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) Latin American Champion El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. appeared on WWE NXT, raising the question of whether this collaboration could become a dynamic entertainment package.
NXT and AAA Lucha Libre: A Potential Elevation
NXT boasts an impressive roster of global talent, and its current storyline with TNA Impact has been captivating. While NXT doesn’t necessarily need AAA Lucha Libre’s help to counter TNA, the Mexican promotion’s involvement could benefit all parties.
Lucha superstars appearing more frequently on WWE shows could pave the way for intriguing matches and storylines in the near future. The AAA Latin American Champion, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., could face NXT North American Champion Ethan Page.
Page could boast about Canadian supremacy, while El Hijo could emphasize Mexico’s rich wrestling legacy, creating a compelling narrative. Similarly, Ricky Starks would relish a match against AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio. Both are WWE superstars, but Dominik is on the main roster, while Starks is in NXT. A storyline involving these champions could elevate them and other superstars.

NXT and AAA Lucha Libre Could Unite
Last week, TNA Impact wrestlers invaded NXT, setting the stage for a Survivor Series-style match at NXT Invasion on October 7, 2025. The NXT Tag Team Champions, DarkState, will face the TNA World Tag Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz, in a winner-takes-all match. While it seems unlikely that WWE wrestlers will lose to TNA Impact, anything is possible in professional wrestling.
If NXT faces defeat, AAA Lucha Libre superstars could step in to defend their honor. AAA’s Mr. Iguana could make a surprise appearance, challenging anyone who opposes NXT superstars.

This could spark exciting matches and open the door for a deeper partnership between AAA and NXT. However, this collaboration might be a short-lived journey if NXT superstars mistreat their Lucha Libre counterparts, potentially leading to new rivalries.

Why NXT Is the Ideal Platform for AAA Lucha Libre
WWE should avoid placing numerous AAA Lucha Libre superstars on its main shows, Raw and SmackDown, as their established rosters could be disrupted by new additions, derailing existing storylines. NXT, however, offers a flexible platform with room for experimentation. NXT North American Champion Ethan Page could face an AAA star, while Jacy Jayne would thrive in a match against a Mexican female luchadora.
It would be intriguing to see if WWE explores this option. Additionally, AAA stars like Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo could appear on NXT, either supporting or opposing the brand, adding further depth to the crossover.
