WWE Raw tonight opened up with a bang as Jey Uso came out to kick things off and talk about Logan Paul. Paul had challenged Uso to a world title match last week and it seemed like Uso was out there to accept and make it official for Backlash this weekend. However, before Uso could address Paul he was greeted by another Paul…Paul Heyman.
Taking on the boos that Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker have thus avoided since their massive heel turns, Heyman walked out to the ring on WWE Raw tonight to address the champion. Uso wasn’t happy to see the OG as he said he had a lot of nerve coming out there after what Heyman did to his blood at WrestleMania. That got Heyman going as he said Reigns betrayed him. Uso said he tried to warn both Reigns and Punk about Heyman from day one to which Heyman replied he wished he had been granted some of that courtesy as no one warned him about Punk. It was Punk who put Heyman in an impossible situation forcing him to go against the wishes of Reigns. And Reigns, he couldn’t handle Heyman stepping up to help Punk fulfill a dream the two of them had together before Reigns even laced up his first pair of wrestling boots. So ultimately, Heyman opined, he was in the right no matter what anyone said or how the WWE Raw tonight crowd felt.
But…Heyman had come out there to talk to Uso, not about Reigns or Punk. Heyman apologized for bringing up his two former clients before turning his attention to his current client, Seth Rollins. Heyman acknowledged that Uso worked hard for his championship but he’s not prepared for the power and control that comes with the title. It’s about more than just entertaining the crowd. Heyman told Uso he didn’t know how to leverage the title but Rollins does. So while Uso may need or want to be champion, it’s Rollins who has to be champion. So Heyman made the challenge official. Rollins wanted to be #1 contender and he was ready to take on Uso any time, any place.
Before Heyman could leave the ring, Uso was fired up. He told Heyman and the Omaha crowd that if Rollins wanted his shot and was willing to wrestle any time or any place, how about WWE Raw tonight?
Backstage, Heyman met up with Rollins and Bron Breakker as the three laughed. Heyman said Rollins was right and Uso totally fell for it. Rollins said ‘I told you so’ to Heyman before Heyman talked about his vision with Breakker. At the end of the segment, Michael Cole announced the match was official. It would be Rollins vs Uso for the world title tonight on Raw.
