A WWE WrestleMania 41 graphic featuring Gunther and Jey Uso.

Will WWE WrestleMania 41 Win Be Gunther’s Defining Moment?

Gunther reminded everyone of what he’s capable of on WWE Raw when he unleashed a shock attack on Jey Uso mid-entrance this week.

When WWE fans were enjoying the most popular entrance in WWE, Gunther appeared as the ultimate spoiler.

Gunther seemed to have taken some lessons from Las Vegas magicians when he materialized from nowhere to sweep Uso off the announce table. The World Heavyweight Champion promised 10 weeks of hell before he faces Uso in the magic capital of the world, Las Vegas, in April.

Many believe Gunther will need to pull off a mind-blowing illusion in the manner of Penn & Teller, or Criss Angel to leave WrestleMania 41 still champion.

But a victory for Gunther would finally earn him the respect many have failed to give his World Heavyweight Championship run. Maybe, just maybe, WWE WrestleMania 41 is going to be Gunther’s defining moment.

Here’s why.

Has Gunther’s Title Reign Been Building To WrestleMania 41 Win?

Triple H has been keen to point out that fans ‘no nothing’ in the WWE Netflix era. As WWE gears up to host its first WrestleMania on Netflix, many fans see a Jey Uso title win as a sure thing.

But this is Las Vegas. There’s no such thing as a sure bet.

Gunther has struggled to seem as dominant with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist as he did during his 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign.

A loss to Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to decide who was the ultimate Crown Jewel Champion did not help the impression of Gunther as the all-dominating champion.

But the main reason is Gunther hasn’t overcome insurmountable odds.

The top stars on WWE Raw have been kept from Gunther. CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Drew McIntyre have been strangely absent from the list of challengers to Gunther and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The big question is, what has WWE been waiting for?

Gunther’s victories over Damian Priest, Randy Orton, and Sami Zayn were not surprising.

His biggest tests have come at the two Saturday Night Main Event shows. A triple-threat win over Finn Balor and Damian Priest showed Gunther had returned to his most dominant self.

“The Ring General” then defeated Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the start of 2025.

Gunther Wins At WWE WrestleMania 41: The Outcome

Gunther vs. Jey Uso is set to headline WrestleMania 41 on April 19 & 20. Everyone seems to be looking at this as the moment Uso finally wins a major singles title and breaks out as the top star in WWE.

But this could be the moment Gunther provides the ultimate dose of disappointment to fans and retains his championship.

WWE’s graphic for the match uses each man’s first name initial on a playing card. A ‘J’ for Jey Uso appears to show him as a Joker card. Could the fate of this match be written in the cards?

If Gunther can walk into WWE Raw after WWE WrestleMania 41 still with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist, he will be the most hated man on the planet. He will also be perfectly positioned to continue his reign as the ultimate, hated, dominating champion.

Then, and only then, could he face the likes of CM Punk, Rollins, and McIntyre. If Gunther can defeat Uso, he will go into these matches with the aura he entered his Intercontinental Championship bouts.

Yes. I fully agree that WrestleMania is Uso’s big moment. But in WWE nothing is certain.

WrestleMania 41 could very well be the moment WWE crowns Gunther as its ultimate heel champion.

Gunther’s redemption story also shouldn’t be overlooked. He lost his biggest match at WrestleMania 40 to Sami Zayn. A win this year would show growth among Gunther and complete a nice story arc.
