Preview: WWE SmackDown (8/19/22) – Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre Head-to-Head

WWE SmackDown Featuring Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre

The path toward WWE Clash at the Castle becomes clearer on this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown. The blue brand has plenty of action on tap as well based on what’s been announced thus far. On SmackDown, Drew McIntyre meets his Clash at the Castle opponent, Roman Reigns, prior to their Undisputed WWE Universal Championship bout. Furthermore, this week’s show will feature action in the ongoing WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament. Take a closer look at what to expect.

WWE SmackDown (8/19/22) Card

  • Viking Raiders Hold “Viking Funeral” for The New Day
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament First-Round Match: Natalya and Sonya Deville vs. Toxic Attraction (Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin)
  • Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre Go Head-to-Head

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament Continues

In the final first-round match of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, SmackDown stalwarts Natalya and Sonya Deville were schedule to face off against NXT 2.0 stars Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons. However, hours before the show was set to air, it was announced that not only did Stark sustain an injury during her NXT Women’s Championship match against Mandy Rose at Heatwave but Lyons was deemed medically unable to compete. In their place will be former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin of Toxic Attraction. Despite being placed on the show on such short notice, the former titleholders aim to make the most of this opportunity. On the other side, given the veteran presence of Natalya and the authoritative approach of Deville, it’s difficult to pick a clear winning team. Tune into SmackDown this week to find out who advances in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament.

Drew McIntyre Goes Head-to-Head With Roman Reigns on SmackDown

Also set for this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown is a head-to-head encounter between “The Scottish Warrior” Drew McIntyre and “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns en route to their Undisputed WWE Univeral Championship match at Clash at the Castle. This past Monday, on Raw, McIntyre faced Kevin Owens in a match that was interrupted by The Usos. By the end of said match, McIntyre found himself laying, Owens telling The Usos that their cousin owed him. Needless to say, McIntyre will have plenty to say to Reigns leading up to their title encounter. The wildcard to consider, however, is Karrion Kross, who made his shocking WWE return alongside Scarlett at the expense of not only McIntyre but, to a lesser degree, Reigns. How will this encounter between Premium Live Event opponents unfold?
