Preview: AEW Rampage (8/19/22) – ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli Speaks

AEW Rampage Feat Claudio Castagnoli

All Elite Wrestling continues its run at the West Virginia Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Not much has happened at this arena, as major wrestling events have not seen to take place in it, though we already saw a major night take place this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite with the return of Kenny Omega, opening up the AEW World Trios Championship Tournament, CM Punk and Jon Moxley’s intense war of words which seemed to even spill backstage blood, and the impeccable 2/3 Falls Match between Daniel Garcia and Bryan Danielson. Let’s take a look at what to expect this week on AEW Rampage, featuring Swerve In Our Glory, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli, and more.

AEW Rampage (8/19/22) Preview

AEW Rampage Full Card

  • We Hear From ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli
  • Penelope Ford vs. Athena
  • AEW World Trios Championship Quarterfinal: Trustbusters (Parker Bordeaux, Slim J, and Ari Daivari) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, and Orange Cassidy)
  • FTW Championship: Hook (c) vs. Zack Clayton
  • AEW World Tag Team Championship: Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) (c) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen)

Swerve In Our Glory Continue Their Odd Trek

The odd trek towards ALL OUT continues for the AEW World Tag Team Champions as they defend against another prospective team of opponents in Private Party. Though this time, it’s a Top 5 ranked team, it’s still very odd that the duo of Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee simply take on seemingly random challengers on a near-weekly basis with no real direction.

While FTR may not have the most intriguing match announced for ALL OUT, it still feels like a more firm direction than what the AEW tag team titleholders are doing, now that the lauded Champions vs Champions match seems to be out the window.

If anything, this can prove to be a very fun match as Private Party, while sadly hidden away, never fail to electrify whenever they get the chance.

Jersey Shore Spilled On Our Wrestling Again

If you’re a fan of WWE and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s dabbles with the infamous Jersey Shore TV show, you’re in luck because here we go again. At least we get a trained wrestler this time and his gimmick isn’t to be intentionally goofy like the show parody Robbie E was in TNA. Zack Clayton has been training as a pro wrestler for some time. He will be challenging Hook for the FTW Championship.

The last time we saw Jersey Shore bleed into wrestling, we saw Snooki teaming with John Morrison and Trish Stratus at WrestleMania in an awkward match where real-life heat wound up developing between Snooki’s two partners and Morrison’s then-girlfriend Melina.

Zack Clayton’s fiancee happens to be another Jersey Shore alumni, JWoww who did, in fact, appear in TNA once in an angle involving the aforementioned Robbie E and Snooki parody, Cookie.

Hey, at least the Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil got namedropped by TMZ, so that’s something.

Trios Tournament Continues

If anything, AEW managed to put some story behind this first-round match of the trios tournament. We’ve seen Best Friends interact with the new trio of the Trustbusters for a few weeks now, including Orange Cassidy beating Ari Daivari last week. Though, we have to wonder if Sonny Kiss’ turn last week means she is joining this new group or continuing solo as a heel.

But now we’ll see this Trustbusters trio of Parker Boudreaux, Slim J, and Ari Daivari facing off against Trent Berreta, Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor, one of AEW’s first and more popular trios.

The Champ, Claudio Castagnoli, Speaks on AEW Rampage

The Ring Of Honor World Champion, Claudio Castagnoli, will look to speak on AEW Rampage. One has to wonder if by some chance a spot will be open for a defense at ALL OUT or if we have a title defense on TV on the horizon. Nonetheless, given the freshness of the Blackpool Combat Club’s fourth member and other world champion, we might just get an intriguing match-up set up. The question is with who? After all, AEW has so many great wrestlers lined up. And almost all of them would be new opponents for the Swiss brass-ring-grabber, Claudio Castagoni, on AEW Rampage.

All that and more coming up tonight on AEW Rampage.
