Per Renee Paquette via Twitter, IMPACT Wrestling has just gained a new voice. This past Wednesday, it was reported that Matt Striker wrapped up his time with the company. With this change came the need for a commentary to work alongside D’Lo Brown, as he and Striker previously replaced Josh Matthews and Madison Rayne at the desk. Earlier today, it was revealed that the IMPACT Wrestling broadcast team will be joined by none other than Tom Hannifan; this individual may be better known by wrestling fans as former WWE play-by-play announcer Tom Phillips. Hannifan makes his IMPACT debut at tonight’s Hard to Kill event.

As previously mentioned, new play-by-play announcer Tom Hannifan was previously part of WWE under the name Tom Phillips. He started with WWE in 2012 and served multiple roles in the company up until his release in May 2021. Phillips called the action on shows such as NXT, Main Event, and Monday Night Raw. Furthermore, he conducted backstage interviews, not only on WWE television but across their digital channels as well. Phillips spent nearly 9 years with WWE prior to his release.

Before working in professional wrestling, Tom Hannifan worked as a sports broadcaster, learning to do so as early as high school. He majored in broadcast journalism during his time at Penn State, even participating in the university’s COMRadio station.
