GCW to Run Hammerstein Ballroom on January 23, 2022

GCW Hammerstein Ballroom

During GCW Fight Club, company founder and promoter Brett Lauderdale stood in the ring to make a special announcement. He tried to make said announcement earlier in the night, only to be interrupted by Matt Cardona. Lauderdale reappeared later in the show to finally make the announcement, directing everyone’s attention to a video package. The video in question showed a collective of GCW wrestlers – EFFY, AJ Gray, and Nick Gage, among others – standing in the middle of Hammerstein Ballroom. It’s official: on January 23, 2002, GCW will run Hammerstein Ballroom.

This will mark Game Changer Wrestling’s first-ever appearance at Hammerstein Ballroom, located at the Manhattan Center in Manhattan, New York. To say that this is a historic venue would be an understatement, especially in professional wrestling. Previously known as the Manhattan Center, this elegant-looking venue has been home to many wrestling events. Following the name change, it housed several shows for for Extreme Championship Wrestling and Ring of Honor. In 2010, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling held their first event from the Ballroom, though it’s often ECW and ROH that most wrestling fans associate the venue with.

ECW hosted multiple Hammerstein Ballroom events, including Massacre on 34th Street in 2000, in addition to the two One Night Stand events. In terms of ROH, multiple Final Battle events were held from the venue, the last being in 2018. The specifics of GCW’s debut at Hammerstein Ballroom remain to be confirmed. However, given the excitement behind this news, it’s fair to expect the independent wrestling promotion to pull out all the stops.
