#AndNEW: Shinya Aoki Reclaims DDT Extreme Championship

Shinya Aoki Chris Brookes

After Ultimate Party 2020, Shinya Aoki was left humiliated and almost completely absent from DDT Pro Cards. He previously lost the DDT Extreme Championship to Sanshiro Takagi in a Weapons Rumble. Aoki would make his return in a match for the now KO-D Eight Man Tag Team Championship, only to lose it back to a team headed by Takagi. From there, Aoki remained in the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship scene.

Around this same time, Chris Brookes made his move from the DDT Universal Championship picture to the Extreme title picture, defeating a different member of the 37Kamina. Brookes would begin defending his newly won belt against people who were the Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion in double title matches.

Summer Vacation Tour 2021 in Shinjuku was Shinya Aoki’s in to reclaim the title that he was a proud defender of for almost all of 2020, in a match fought under no DQ and no submission rules. This would eliminate both Aoki and Brookes’s deadly submissions, but keep their equally as dangerous pinning maneuvers in play. Aoki and Brookes lived up to the no DQ stylings as both chairs and tables were brought into play for the affair. In the end, it was the striking and unpredictability of Aoki that made the difference as he walked out with both titles.

What the future holds for Shinya Aoki nd the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship is up in the air as the title is on the line at all times. However, Aoki’s next opponent for the DDT Extreme title has already been decided; it was announced that both titles will be on the line against MAO on August 15. No stipulation was announced, but that is sure to change. Aoki was an entertaining Extreme Champion in a time where it was tough to be a champion. It will be of great interest to see what he does with full crowds in effect.
