Thunder Rosa to Defend NWA World Women’s Championship on AEW Dynamite

Thunder Rosa

It seems as though the work of Thunder Rosa in All Elite Wrestling isn’t done yet. On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that the reigning NWA World Women’s Champion would be appearing on next week’s Dynamite. However, the stakes would continue to be high. It was confirmed that Rosa would take on Ivelisse. More importantly, Rosa’s NWA World Women’s Championship would be on the line.

Thunder Rosa made her first AEW appearance on the August 22nd episode of Dynamite. She appeared in a vignette, complete with her NWA World Women’s Championship. In the vignette in question, she targeted the AEW Women’s World Champion, Hikaru Shida. Rosa wanted to face the best that AEW had to offer. To this end, she challenged Shida for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All Out. Rosa’s first-ever AEW match took place on the September 2nd episode of Dynamite, where she handily defeated Serena Deeb.

As one would expect from wrestlers of their caliber, the All Out match between Rosa and Shida was incredibly competitive. Both women entered this match representing their respective companies, though it was Shida’s title that was on the line. Despite a hard-fought effort from Rosa, she was unable to take out the face of the AEW women’s scene. In this contest that went a little under seventeen minutes, Shida emerged victorious. This loss far from hurt Rosa, however, who gave the AEW Women’s World Champion one of the toughest fights of her career.

Next week, Rosa is set to defend her NWA Women’s World Championship on AEW Dynamite against Ivelisse. Interestingly, this will be the first time that a women’s championship from an outside promotion will be defended on AEW soil. Ivelisse has made a mark for herself since appearing regularly for AEW. Case and point, it was this past August that, alongside Diamante, Ivelisse won the first-ever AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament. On next week’s episode of Dynamite, she will face perhaps her greatest challenge in the form of the reigning NWA Women’s World Champion.

Programming note: The September 16th episode of AEW Dynamite will air on September 17th instead due to TNT airing the NBA playoffs. Make sure to set your DVR in order not to miss any of the action!
