Sunderland Sign New Striker, Plus Eliezer Mayenda Signs New Deal

Marc Guiu Signs

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has completed his move to Sunderland. The former Barcelona player has moved to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan. It is understood that there is no option for the Black Cats to buy the player included in the current deal.

Chelsea signed Guiu last summer from Barcelona after they activated his release clause. He has since featured 16 times for the Blues, scoring six times. All of his goals were scored in the Europa Conference League, which Chelsea went on to win.

The young striker has been capped at youth level for Spain, is highly rated, and is expected to have a bright future. A loan to a club such as Sunderland, who are known for developing young talent, could be an ideal move for him as well as the Black Cats.

After joining Sunderland, the 19-year-old said: “I’m feeling great and really looking forward to the season ahead. I see myself as a powerful striker, who can make a difference on and off the ball, and I pride myself on being a natural goalscorer. This year is a huge opportunity for me to help take this team where it truly deserves to be, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Barcelona’s former assistant director of youth football, Albert Capellas, had this to say about Guiu following his move to Chelsea last summer. He said: “Marc Guiu is a finisher. He is a deep runner. He is a very good header. He is fast, powerful, a fantastic boy. Very competitive.

“Marc Guiu is not a player who has unbelievable skills one against one, who can dribble past players. He is another type of player but he is exceptional in his position, in the work that he has to do, in his mentality. He has the nose to score goals.”

Eliezer Mayenda Set to Sign New Contract

Goalscoring hero from last season, Eliezer Mayenda, looks set to follow head coach Regis Le Bris in signing a new contract. The deal, announced by Fabrizio Ramano, is for five years, and despite the striker attracting interest from several clubs, he only wanted to be at Sunderland.

Mayenda, despite a tough start to life in England, showed fans why he was signed last season. He helped the Black Cats gain promotion via the playoffs, scoring in both the semi-final and final.
