Chelsea Target to Undergo Medical Today

Fabrizio Romano Reports on Latest

Fabrizio Romano has offered the latest on the Blues’ chase for Hato. The defender will reportedly start his medical today which is usually the last stage of red tape before a deal can be officially announced. Given it is a Friday this may see the official confirmation kept under wraps until next week but the club will have time to make sure their impending signing is in good health.

It is unlikely a medical will throw up any complications as the teenager has been playing consistently for the past two seasons at senior level without any huge concerns.

Jorrel Hato Done Soon

With a shortened pre-season following the Club World Cup, Enzo Maresca will no doubt be eager to get the Ajax man on the training field to get up to speed with tactics before the friendlies with Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan which will put the squad’s fitness to the test.

Hato has mainly been signed due to his ability to play as a left-back, centre-back, and left centre-back in a back three. This tactical flexibility can provide cover for Marc Cucurella as well as new ideas for Maresca who could play Gusto overlapping on the right while Hato moves in with Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah as a compact back three.

The Dutch defender’s passing ability makes him a solid fit for the Blues as he has a high completion rate for short and medium passes. He may not break the lines but he will be able to find someone like Colwill who can while moving the ball around to avoid the press.
