Manchester United are on a mission this summer to strengthen their forward line, after they scored the 16th fewest goals in the league last season. They have already acquired Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, both of whom should add flair and output to their attack. However, the key position is at striker, and after some failed interest in Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike, Manchester United are now determined to get Benjamin Sesko.

Newcastle United Also Ready to Bid
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United “have informed” RB Leipzig of their plan to send a formal bid for Sesko. This is in the case that the “beast” of a striker accepts Old Trafford as his preferred destination. After losing out on Gyokeres to Arsenal and Ekitike to Liverpool, the Red Devils appear determined to sign a top-class striker, crucially before their first game against the Gunners on August 17.

However, Premier League rivals Newcastle United are “also ready to bid” and have been since last week. The Magpies are prepared to match Sesko’s demands. This throws a spanner into the works, with Newcastle equally determined to find a centre-forward: Ekitike was their top target, and it now appears that Alexander Isak will depart this summer.
Romano reports that the decision is up to Sesko himself on which club, if any, he will join.
Does A New Striker Really Revolutionise Manchester United?
Manchester United had problems all over the board last season. Though the striker position was one, it was arguably not the greatest. Now that they have brought in the likes of Mbeumo and Cunha to take the creative weight off of Bruno Fernandes a bit, their centre-forwards might actually get some good service.
Rasmus Hojlund had an expected goals of just 5.24 last campaign, netting four; finishing chances was not the main concern, it was creating them. Having spent £72 million on the Dane and £35 million on Joshua Zirkzee, you’d think United might give the duo a chance in a functional system before forking out even more money.

This can be especially considered when you take into account that they have not brought in any real defensive reinforcements. Furthermore, goalkeeper Andre Onana will miss the beginning of the season, and has been a liability regardless. They may be better off spending on different areas of the pitch for now.
