‘Top’ Rival Player Not Interested in Arsenal Move, Mikel Arteta ‘a Huge Fan’

Raheem Sterling

According to Raheem Sterling’s representative, Kelly Hogarth, the winger is not interested in leaving Chelsea and joining Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window. 90min reported earlier this week that Arsenal are monitoring Sterling’s situation, with Mikel Arteta looking to bolster his squad in the summer as The Gunners near a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal had previously been interested in securing the Englishman’s services last summer. The Telegraph reported in May 2022 that the north London club were exploring a deal to sign the winger, but he ultimately signed for London rivals Chelsea.

However, according to 90min, Arteta wants to add players with “European experience” to Arsenal’s squad in the upcoming transfer window as his team prepares to play Champions League football next season. It has been six years since The Gunners last played in the competition, but that absence looks set to end.

One of the players that Arsenal are reportedly keeping an eye on is Sterling. Arteta coached the 28-year-old at Manchester City while the Spaniard was assistant manager to Pep Guardiola and apparently remains “a huge fan.”

However, Hogarth, who represents Sterling, has addressed speculation that the winger could move to Arsenal in the summer. The representative has stated that the former Manchester City man is committed to the project at Chelsea and that he is not looking for a move to north London.

Hogarth wrote: “Sterling has expressed NO discontent with CFC and having committed his long-term future to the ownership this summer, there is to be no review of his position in the upcoming transfer window.”

“He very much looks forward to building upon the success of previous seasons.”

Potter: Sterling ‘a Top Player’

The 28-year-old has not made the impact that Chelsea fans might have expected since signing. Although he started brightly with two goals against Leicester City and one against Southampton back in August, he has only scored one goal in the Premier League since then.

Nevertheless, 113 goals and 59 assists in the Premier League alone demonstrates why Arsenal would want to sign him. He might not be at his best currently, but he can be a quality asset, which Blues boss Graham Potter recognizes.

“He’s come into a new team that have lost some key players over the summer, brought some new ones in during the transfer window and had a manager change,” Potter told the club’s website back in December. “The team hasn’t functioned as well as I believe it can and Raheem, along with all the players, has suffered for that.

“It would be wrong for me to say that Raheem has been at the absolute top of his game but he’s not the only one. It’s my responsibility to help the team function better so that he can play better because he’s got the quality of a top player.”
