Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have both approached Leeds United over the possibility of signing Wales international Daniel James, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
However, any deal to prise James away from Elland Road would be a complicated transfer to complete given that Leeds would be happy to keep the winger and have already lost Raphinha to Barcelona earlier this summer.

Antonio Conte has wasted no time in transforming his Tottenham side into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking forces. The former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss has added Dejan Kulusevski to a forward line already containing Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, and has also seen his side complete deals to bring Richarlison and Ivan Perisic to the club this summer.
Adding the pace and trickery of former Manchester United man James to the mix would strengthen Conte’s attacking options even further, but it remains to be seen just how willing Leeds United are to agree to a deal at this stage of the transfer window.
Tottenham are not alone in registering their interest in James. Frank Lampard is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements at Everton, and the Merseyside outfit’s interest in the the 24-year-old will increase dramatically if Chelsea succeed in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon this summer.
James to Control Final Decision on Future
Ultimately, the final decision on the immediate future of Daniel James rests with the player himself. James was a top transfer target for former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, who finally succeeded in bringing the Welshman to Elland Road in August 2021 having also tried to sign him before his move to Manchester United in the summer of 2019.
James remains an important player under Bielsa’s predecessor Jesse Marsch, and has played in three of the side’s opening four league fixtures so far this campaign, having made 35 appearances for the club last season.
James is under contract at Elland Road until June 2026, having joined on a five-year deal when he made the switch from Manchester United last summer.
