AC Milan Are Negotiating to Keep Attacking Option

AC Milan are negotiating with Crotone to retain attacking option Junior Messias, according to Gianluca di Marzio. Messias arrived to Milan on loan last season, with very little expectations, but performed quite well and cemented his spot as a solid depth option. Milan are moving quite quickly, as the club would like to close the deal within the next 48 hours so they can continue focusing on other new additions.

AC Milan Are Negotiating for Junior Messias

Reliable Depth

When Messias arrived in Milan on the last day of the 2021 Serie A summer transfer window, expectations were low. In fact, Milan faithful hoped for more attacking help. Securing a player from a team that just got relegated wasn’t exactly what was hoped for.

Messias didn’t break the bank nor did he emerge as a star, but he continuously provided reliable depth. In 26 Serie A appearances, Messias scored five goals and provided two assists. In two Champions League matches, Messias scored one goal and provided one assist. As a secondary name off the bench, Messias did his job.

The 31-year-old is also quite versatile. Although primarily a right-winger, his creativity allows him to feature as both an attacking midfielder and a secondary striker. This bodes well for Milan as of now, as the right-wing and attacking midfield positions aren’t the most reliable with Alexis Saelemaekers and Brahim Diaz as starters.

It’s fair to say Messias contributed well to Milan’s victorious Serie A campaign. His leadership and fight were equally important to his play, and Milan management clearly values this.
