After failing to retain the Serie A title on the final day, Inter Milan are already gearing up to go again next year. A lot of rumours surrounding the club point towards players leaving, such as Alessandro Bastoni and Ivan Perisic. Whilst Simone Inzaghi will be keen to hold on to these key players, he also hopes to bolster his squad. Roma are in the process of negotiating another contract with Henrikh Mkhitaryan but, as per Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzurri are poised to hijack this deal.
Inter have made an official proposal to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a free transfer. Talks ongoing – as he has also received an offer from AS Roma to extend current deal. 🇦🇲 #transfers

Inter Milan Set to Swoop for Roma’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Where Would he Fit in At Inter?
Henrikh Mkhitaryan hasn’t been a regular feature for Roma recently. He did start the UEFA Conference League final, a decision from Jose Mourinho that raised a fair few eyebrows. The Armenian international made way with an injury after just 15 minutes or so though, with Sergio Oliveira coming on in his place.
This lack of playing time may prompt him to look elsewhere, and Inter Milan are reportedly interested in bringing him. The main question that arises about this potential move is where he would fit in at the San Siro. Inzaghi opts for wingbacks and Mkhitaryan isn’t really capable of playing as a striker, leaving just the number ten role available for him. This position is currently occupied by Hakan Calhanoglu and he has been one of the best performers for Inter since crossing the treacherous Milan divide.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was in Manchester at the same time as Mourinho and so the move across to the Eternal City for the 33-year-old was surely at the Special One’s recommendation. He started 29 games in Serie A this year and it seems unlikely that he would be able to match that tally with Inter.
Will Henrikh Mkhitaryan Continue Under Jose Mourinho?
As previously mentioned, Henrikh Mkhitaryan started 29 of his 31 league appearances, amassing over 2,500 minutes. He may not be as instrumental as Tammy Abraham, Nicolo Zaniolo and Lorenzo Pellegrini, but he certainly played his role in Rome.
He has made more appearances for the Giallorossi than he did for either Manchester United or Arsenal. As per Romano’s tweet, ‘Mkhitaryan’s tempted’ and ‘Inter are now confident’ so there clearly are certain assurances in place. He has been part of teams that have won the Europa League and now the Conference League. With Inter, he could get a Scudetto to his name, too.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan may well be moving on from Roma then with his contract expiring this summer. The club want to hang on to him but Inter Milan may prove to be a more attractive and lucrative proposition.
