Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos is set to stay at the club. He’s been a mainstay in the starting lineup for years now and remains one of the top centre-backs in Ligue 1 and all of Europe. Work is in progress for a contract extension, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Paris Saint-Germain Defender Set to Stay at the Club
Major Importance
PSG went all in last summer to create as good of a team as possible. This included the arrivals of major stars such as Lionel Messi, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and more.
Marquinhos, however, has been part of the club since 2013 after arriving from AS Roma. A team needs a leader with stability such as that that Marquinhos brings.
“Today I’m not thinking of leaving Paris Saint-Germain, it’s not in my plans,” Marquinhos said to Canal Plus. “If it’s possible to spend my whole career here, that’s fine with me! I’m happy in Paris”.
These are very encouraging words from the club, especially after Keylor Navas provided unclear quotes on his future. In addition, PSG may potentially lose its brightest star.
The Brazilian core is set to remain intact, however. Marquinhos aims to stay, while forward Neymar shares the same thoughts.
Although Marquinhos has been part of the club for nine years already, he’s still only 27-years-old. As a centre-back, he’s only entering his prime years now.
PSG look to be set in defence now, not making it a concern in the transfer market this coming summer. Hakimi and Marquinhos are assured starters, as is vice-captain Presnel Kimpembe. Nuno Mendes will likely remain at left-back as well. Behind these players, PSG have plenty of depth as well. Legendary defender Sergio Ramos desires to stay at the club as well.
Although PSG fell short in their Champions League goals this season, they will be set for another run next season.
