The Italian has also mentioned that Los Blancos wanted his signature in 2018 too.

Juventus Boss Massimiliano Allegri: Move to Madrid Was Close

Allegri Details Real Madrid Talks

Allegri went into detail about his potential move to the Spanish capital, he told GQ: “I had already signed with them (Real Madrid) last summer, but I called the president to tell him that I would not go because I had chosen Juventus. He thanked me. When they called me in May, I had no doubts.

“I have no regrets, it would have been great professionally: Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid…but you can’t have everything in life.

The 54-year-old also mentioned that he was close to moving in 2018, but after the death of his mother, he wanted to stay in Italy: “It was the right time. I could have returned earlier, but I didn’t do it because of personal reasons.

“My mother died in 2018, so I didn’t want to go too far away. I remained close to my son Giorgio and my father, who was severely affected by the death of my mum. He still lives in Livorno.

“I decided to return to Juventus because I have a strong bond with the club and the owners, but also to stay closer to my son, who lives in Turin with his mother. I like to be close to my loved ones.”

Juventus Aim to Finish the Season Strong

Despite Allegri returning to The Old Lady, it has been a very poor season for the club. An embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home to Villarreal in the Champions League means that Juventus can only win a domestic title this season.

Juve currently sit in fourth place in the Serie A table and will need a miracle to catch up to first placed AC Milan, who are seven points ahead of them. The Old Lady can still have a say in the title race though as they prepare to face current champions Inter Milan on Sunday.

The best chance of silverware this season for Juventus and Allegri will be in the Coppa Italia. Juve currently lead Fiorentina 1-0 in the semi-finals after one leg.

It is likely that Allegri will remain as manager despite the poor season. Juventus will look to continue rebuilding their squad, adding to the January signings of Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria.
