Manchester United Looking to Continue Tradition Signing Impressive Talent
The 18-year-old fits the profile of young players that United like to nurture and promote to the first team and their scouting teams are often seen at other clubs looking for the next prospect. Whilst he has yet to make his first-team debut for Brighton, his impressive performances for their U18s have been enough to convince United to bring him to Old Trafford. Collyer is a defensive midfielder and The Secret Scout labelled him ‘One of the best young central midfielders in the country’.
Toby Collyer: A Young Lions Captain
Collyer has been particularly impressive in his performances within the England setup, where he has been captain at both U16 and U17 levels as well as being involved with the U19s. He has shone when sitting in front of the back four and has good control and passing range drawing comparisons with former United favourite Michael Carrick.
Bags of Potential
United already have a number of talented youngsters in the U23 set up with the likes of Hannibal Mejbri and Zidane Iqbal among those that Collyer will now join up with. He will be seen as one for the future and is unlikely to see any first-team football yet and any fee for the youngster has not been disclosed.
Collyer has made over 25 appearances across the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2. He did make the Brighton U21 bench for an EFL Trophy tie against AFC Wimbledon but was not brought on.
