Frank Lampard

Following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, it has now been confirmed that Frank Lampard has taken over at Everton and he will have a huge task ahead of him to not only keep the Toffees in the Premier League, but to also get them into the top four which is the main ambition of Liverpool’s Merseyside neighbours.

Lampard Arrives

Former Derby County and Chelsea boss Lampard has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Everton and brings with him the experienced coach Paul Clement who has worked at Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid as well as Joe Edwards who will leave his coaching role at Chelsea. Lampard has been keen to work with close friend Jody Morris who was with him at both Derby and Chelsea but it is believed he won’t be with Lampard in his latest job.

Clement, 50, has worked with some of football’s biggest names, particularly Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and has also had spells as manager at Swansea City, Derby County, Reading and Cercle Brugge.

New Start

Lampard impressed in his first managerial role at Derby, but fell just short of gaining promotion back to the Premier League before leaving for the club where he become a legend. He won the Premier League on three occasions as well as the Champions League but when it came to being manager, he felt the rough hand of owner Roman Abramovich.

Lampard brought young players such as Mason Mount through to the first team but by January of 2021 he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel who went on to win the Champions League.

Lampard will take charge of his first game as manager of Everton against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday 5 January and will be looking for an immediate response from his new players who struggled under previous boss Rafa Benitez.
