AC Milan are close to signing free agent goalkeeper Antonio Mirante as they seek to solve their current goalkeeping situation.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the former Roma goalkeeper will help temporarily replace the injured French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who was signed in the summer to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, who exited for Paris Saint-Germain.
Maignan has been struggling with his left wrist and is due to undergo surgery.

AC Milan have had no luck in the goalkeeping department of late. Alessandro Plizzari is already out until January and popular summer signing Mike Maignan needs surgery on his wrist.
They have turned to former Roma back-up Antonio Mirante, who is available on a free transfer.
Mirante will be a familiar face to Europa League viewers as he replaced Pau Lopez during the semi-final against Manchester United last season. Mirante then started the second leg, conceding seven goals over the two legs, which probably didn’t do his performance justice.
Milan are signing the 38-year-old Italian goalkeeper to compete with 35-year-old Romanian shot-stopper Ciprian Tatarusanu in Maignan and Plizzari’s absence.
Mirante Experience Positive
Mirante started his career with Juventus and is certainly no stranger to Italian football having played for seven clubs in the country, spending his whole career on the Italian land.
He featured most for Parma, where he made 208 appearances, keeping 61 clean sheets and conceding 287 goals.
At Roma he made 35 appearances, conceding 45 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.
It’s not clear how long AC Milan will need him to compete with Tatarusanu for with a timescale on Maignan’s absence only known following surgery.
According to Football Italia, estimations range from ten days to a month.
Mirante can prove a strong option, using his experience to good value in the meantime.
