AS Roma to Revive Denis Zakaria Interest

Denis Zakaria

According to Di Marzio, referenced by Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are set to revive their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, who is out of contract in June of 2022. The Italian club will reportedly attempt to sign the Swiss international in January, in preparation for his arrival at the end of the season.

Unlike the more robust midfielders that Jose Mourinho usually finds suitable, Zakaria is a good dribbler of the ball, whilst maintaining that all-important key passing trait. It would certainly be interesting to see how the Gladbach man would do under such a systematic manager in Mourinho. We’ve seen midfielders like Zakaria struggle in the past under the Premier League winner’s guidance – making for an intriguing prospect if a deal was completed.

Departure Feels Inevitable

With his contract set to expire in 2022, Denis Zakaria’s exit is beginning to feel slightly inevitable, especially given Gladbach’s position in the Bundesliga. Adi Hutter’s side currently sit as low as 10th, struggling to mount any kind of challenge for the European places. And, a player of Zakaria’s talent will not stick around too long without the prospect of some of the biggest stages to perform on.

From a business standpoint, cashing in on Zakaria is the best possible solution, rather than losing him for free in 2022. If Roma present the right offer, which is unlikely, then Gladbach should have no trouble in accepting it and sending the midfielder on his way. It would likely be a cut-price deal, given the aforementioned circumstances, but a deal nonetheless.

With the potential money gained, the Bundesliga club would likely turn to the transfer market to make their own improvements, as they look to climb the table in Germany once more, in hope of reaching the European places before the end of the season.
