Depth in Attack for AS Roma

AS Roma have finally signed Eldor Shomurodov from Genoa. Giallorossi will pay Genoa an initial fee of €17.5 million. The Italian giants have also added several performance-related clauses along with the right for Genoa to retain a percentage of profit for any future transfer involving the player. The 26-year-old joins after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, which could see the striker remain at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2026.

Roma had been a bit stretched in their attack and had been in the market for a striker. Giallorossi were reportedly one of the clubs looking to sign Sardar Azmoun before they turned their attention to Eldor. The forward will provide competition to the ageing Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral as Roma start their first season under Jose Mourinho.

Eldor Shomurodov Football Journey

Nicknamed the Uzbek Messi, Eldor started his career in Uzbekistan with Mash’al Mubarek. The striker’s impressive displays soon saw him moving to Uzbek giants Bunyodkor. While playing for Bunyodkar, he got his big break and moved to Russia and joined FK Rostov in 2017. Eldor spent three and half-seasons in Russia before moving to Genoa last year. The Uzbek played 31 times and scored eight goals for the Italian side last season.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website following his move, Eldor Shomurodov said, “Joining Roma represents a huge step forward in my career – I will do everything I can to show I deserve this opportunity and to demonstrate what I can do at one of the biggest clubs in the world. The speed in which this deal was agreed is testament to my desire to be able to join up with the coach and my new teammates and get to work as soon as possible.”
