Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba has completed his move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The news of his move comes as little shock when considering Barcelona’s need to sell him after he denied a smaller contract to help the financial difficulties at the club. His chosen destination also comes as no surprise. Leipzig have just sold Marcel Sabitzer to Bayern Munich, leaving them with a crucial gap to fill. Moriba enters to fill that gap.
The Bundesliga is quickly becoming the place to be for young talent. The likes of Jadon Sancho thrived in the German top flight before making a big move. Meanwhile, players such as Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Jamal Musiala are still starring for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively. Watching on as he seals a move to Leipzig, Moriba will hope to undergo similar progression as the aforementioned players.

Sabitzer Replacement
One thing Bundesliga sides are good at is finding replacements for departure stars, who have likely left to Bayern Munich. Clubs such as Dortmund, and now Leipzig, somehow manage to identify the next generation of stars with relative ease after losing world-class players. Dortmund did it for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and are now attempting to do so with Jadon Sancho, having brought Donyell Malen in.
Similarly, Leipzig have dealt well with the absences of Naby Keita and Timo Werner over the years. And, now, bringing in Moriba should ensure that they cope well without talisman Marcel Sabitzer. Moriba may be one for the future, but that future often approaches quickly in Germany, given the allowance of expression in the Bundesliga.
The youngster will be handed ample opportunity to showcase his talents, and may even become a top talent in the process at RB Leipzig.
