Wolverhampton Wanderers in Talks to Sign Renato Sanches

According to Sky Sports, Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks with Lille to sign Renato Sanches on loan with an option to buy. The deal is looking increasing likely, with those at Molineux keen to sign the midfielder. In truth, the talks come out of nowhere. Sanches is currently out injured, leaving many to believe that a departure is unlikely. Yet, here Wolves are, seemingly ready to add to their list of Portuguese talent.

The deal would originally be a loan, with an option to buy. Given how impressive Renato Sanches was at Euro 2020, he would undoubtedly take Wolves to the next level. With Joao Mourinho only getting older, too, Bruno Lage will be desperate to bring in a younger option such as Sanches.

Deal Ticks Every Box

A move to Wolves couldn’t be any more perfect for Renato Sanches. If he completes the move, he’ll be working with former manager when at Benfica, Bruno Lage, which would help him settle instantly. Plus, he ticks the Portuguese box at Wolves, which is growing into more of a need at Molinuex. Portugal’s brightest talents just seem to be attracted to the Premier League side, like a moth towards a lamp. Nobody can really explain it, it’s just become the norm.

Together with Ruben Neves, another young Portuguese midfielder, Renato Sanches would form the perfect blend. Whilst Neves is very technical with his play and ambitious with his passing, Sanches is more robust in his tackling and energetic in his closing down. And, with that contrast, Lage would have the perfect partnership and balance in midfield.

The fact is, on paper, Sanches seems perfect for Wolves, and Wolves seem perfect for Sanches. A match made in heaven, if you will, as Bruno Lage seeks to take his new side back into the top half this season.
