Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille and Italian outfit Roma are in advanced talks over a move for goalkeeper, Pau Lopez, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Marseille in Advanced Talks to Sign Pau Lopez From Roma
Goalkeeper Close to Ligue 1 Switch
According to Romano, Marseille are set to sign 26-year-old Pau Lopez on a season-long loan, with an option to buy for €15 million.
The Spaniard made 21 appearances in Serie A last season as Roma limped to a seventh-placed finish, but he missed the final five games of the campaign with a shoulder injury he sustained in the first leg of Roma’s Europa League semi-final clash with Manchester United.
Now, the former Real Betis and Espanyol goalkeeper is closing in on a switch to Jorge Sampaoli’s outfit.
New Roma manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that Lopez isn’t part of his current plans, so a loan move will suit both parties.
Rui Patricio Set to Replace Pau Lopez at the Stadio Olimpico
Romano added that Wolverhampton Wanderers number one Rui Patricio is set to replace Pau Lopez in Rome.
According to the renowned Italian journalist, negotiations between the two clubs are in the final stages.
The 33-year-old, who spent 12 years at Sporting, joined Wolves in 2018. The Portuguese goalkeeper has become one of the Premier League’s top shot-stoppers and would be a welcome addition for I Giallorossi.
Marseille Also Interested in Cengiz Ünder
Along with the potential new arrival of Pau Lopez, Marseille are also set to sign Turkish striker Cengiz Ünder, who has recently returned to Roma from his loan spell at Leicester City.
The 23-year-old has had a frustrating time in the Premier League, playing just 274 minutes across nine matches. However, the Turkish international did feature in all eight of the Foxes’ Europa League fixtures, scoring once in a 4-0 win over Braga.
His only other goal came in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Brentford – the competition that Leicester would win against Chelsea.
