Kristoffer Ajer and His Desired Celtic Exit Remains in Doubt

Kristoffer Ajer

Kristoffer Ajer faces uncertainty regarding his destination for the 2021/22 season, with Celtic turning down offers from the Premier League and the Bundesliga already this summer. According to Liam Bryce of the Daily Record, Ajer is unhappy with the way his situation is panning out.

Kristoffer Ajer May Not Get Celtic Exit

Difficult Season in Scotland

Ajer endured a difficult season with Celtic. The Scottish giants had established a monopoly in the Scottish Premiership. But Rangers, under Steven Gerrard, have slowly returned to the top. Rangers won the title without losing a game all season. As a result, Celtic failed to secure a record tenth straight league title.

The league is not their only failure this season, however. They fell in both the domestic cups and lost in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. They were poor in the Europa League, finishing bottom of the group. Their only win came in the last game, and it did not count for anything.

Neil Lennon was also sacked, and the squad is likely to be refreshed.

No Clear Exit in Sight

Kristoffer Ajer is in the final year of the four-year contract he signed in 2018. He intends to leave the club this summer, but it has not happened yet for him. He has expressed his desire to leave and believes it would be better if he left this summer as Celtic could get a fee for him.

Celtic have reportedly rejected £10 million bids from Bayer Leverkusen and Norwich City. The centre-back is annoyed at the development, as this comes as a blow to his intentions to leave. Norwich, in particular, are prepared to abandon this and move on to other transfer targets such as Cologne’s Sebastiaan Bornaauw or Fulham’s Tosin AdarabioyoRB Leipzig have also shown interest in him, while the likes of AC Milan and Newcastle United have previously been linked with a move.

If no agreement can be found with another club, Ajer will likely see out the last year of his contract at Parkhead. He will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January 2022.
