Predominately a centre-back, Mengi is a talented defender who can play across all defensive areas. He is one youngster Ole Gunnar Solksjaer likes a lot but knows he needs regular game time.
Mengi has been training with the United first team for a while now but is yet to make his senior debut. He is joining Derby to get some football under his belt. Mengi will get a chance to impress as well as enhance his football education.
The versatile teenager will link up with United legend Rooney who will nurture his talent and give him plenty of advice. He will compete for a place in a Derby defence which as vastly improved since Rooney took over as manager.
Rams Looking to Avoid Relegation
The Rams are improving under Rooney. They have won their last three league games, all with clean sheets. Derby are proving efficient as well as hardworking and this certainly is a good time for Mengi to arrive.
He will have to impress to get into that stubborn Derby defence. Rooney will be confident he can make the step up to the Championship. This will be Mengi’s first loan away from Old Trafford and certainly, Solksjaer will watch his progress closely.
Mengi could make his debut in Derby’s crucial clash with fellow strugglers Rotherham United. A big game for both sides in the Championship relegation battle. Victory for the Rams will see them move eight points clear of the Millers who occupy the final relegation spot.
