Teden Mengi Close to Joining Derby County on Loan From Manchester United

Derby County are set to sign Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell and the BBC’s Simon Stone.

Mengi will become Wayne Rooney’s first signing as Derby manager. The 18-year-old is highly thought off at Old Trafford.

Mengi’s arrival is likely to be part of a busy final day of the transfer window for Derby County.

Mengi Has Been Training With the Manchester United First Team

Predominately a centre back, Mengi is a talented defender who can play across all defensive areas. He is one youngster Ole Gunnar Solksjaer likes a lot but knows he requires regular game time.

Mengi has been training with the United first team and now looks set for a first loan spell. The defender will link up with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney at Derby. Rooney has galvanised the Rams and they appear to be upwardly-mobile under Rooney’s leadership.

The talented teenager is one of many United youngsters who could head out on loan. Facundo Pellestri has already completed his move to Alaves while Ethan Galbraith and Dylan Levitt could also be on the move before the transfer window closes.

Mengi will join Derby hoping to get some game time and gain some valuable experience under his belt. Rooney is the perfect mentor for him with Derby wanting to incorporate their academy products into their first team. Rooney knows all the pressures of playing for Manchester United so it appears a loan move to Derby suits all parties.

However, Mengi’s arrival at Derby is likely to coincide with a busy transfer deadline day at Pride Park. Morgan Whittaker and George Evans are close to joining Championship rivals with Derby needing the funds as their takeover saga continues. While Rooney wants to add his own signings to continue Derby’s excellent run of results.
