Exeter City Sign Winger Robbie Willmott on Loan From Newport County

Robbie Willmott

Newport County winger Robbie Willmott has joined league rivals Exeter City on loan for the rest of the season.

The vastly experienced winger departs Newport for the second time in his career. He has made 19 appearances in League Two but started just five times.

Willmott is the Grecians third signing in this transfer window as Matt Taylor looks to freshen up his squad.

Game Time Has Been Limited for the Experienced Winger

Willmott calls time on his second spell at Newport County. The winger has spent the past three-and-half seasons with the Exiles but has dropped down the pecking order this season.

Willmott has only started five times in League Two with the rest of his appearances coming from the bench. A move to Exeter offers a fresh start and a chance to play regularly.

The winger is available to make his debut against Stevenage tomorrow evening.

Matt Taylor Pleased With Willmott Signing

Speaking to the Exeter website about their new signing, Taylor said: “Robbie has a wealth of League Two experience, is body-hardened and is someone who is ready to come in and affect the team.

“His delivery is excellent and he’ll have a real impact higher up the pitch on the back of Randell Williams’ injury. We needed more cover in the wide areas and he can give us that extra option. He suits the ethos of the club.

“You get offered a lot of young players at this time of year but Robbie has been here time and time before and knows how to manage himself during a busy fixture schedule. This deal came to us late but suited all parties.”

As Robbie Willmott Arrives, Nicky Law Departs St James Park

As well as announcing the arrival of Robbie Willmott, Exeter have also confirmed the departure of Nicky Law.

Law, who made over 100 appearances for the Grecians, will leave and take on a new role in the United States. He is joining the coaching team of USL club Indy Eleven.
