Millwall have seen a bid of £500,000 rejected by Derby County for midfielder George Evans according to The Telegraph’s John Percy.

Evans is on Gary Rowett’s wishlist as he looks to exploit his former club’s financial problems.

According to Percy, Millwall are likely to return with a second bid before the transfer window closes in six days time.

In and Out at Derby

The midfielder has been with the Rams since 2018 but h is time in the East Midlands has been mixed, with injuries playing a part in his lack of game time this season. Evans has featured just six times in the Championship.

However, when fit and available, he is a favourite of the Derby fans. His is an excellent all-round midfielder who protects the back four excellently. He can also pick a pass and can be key to how they play.

Evans has been brought back into reckoning under Wayne Rooney. He helped the Rams to a crucial win at fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers at the weekend. Rooney reiterated his desire to key players in this transfer window.

However, with Derby’s protracted takeover rumbling on, who Rooney keeps could be out of his hands. With January wages needing to be paid at the end of this week, Evans may well see his time at Pride Park come to an end should Millwall make an improved offer.

Gary Rowett is looking to strengthen his Millwall side in what has been a largely flat season so far. Optimism was high at the Den at the start of the season but things have not gone to plan. Rowett is hoping a shake-up of his squad can galvanise their season.

Maikel Kieftenbeld arrived yesterday and it appears Rowett wants another midfielder. Their opening bid for Evans was rejected but with the Rams needing quick cash, Millwall are likely to go back in. The offer will have to be substantially better if Rowett is to land his man.
