Could Fetch a Significant Fee

The defender has been linked with a move away and reports emerged suggesting he was in talks over a move away from the club. It is now understood that the move away is to the Bundesliga and to Bayer Leverkusen.

Frimpong could fetch a significant fee for the Scottish champions too – the former Manchester City man could leave the club for a fee worth around £11.5 million, which is a huge profit from what Celtic paid for him.

The player has featured 22 times so far for the club in the league this campaign and, despite Celtic faltering in the Scottish Premiership, the player has continued to impress for them. So much so, that Bayer Leverkusen are now ready to take a punt on the 20-year-old and take him to Germany.

Played for Manchester City as a Youngster

Frimpong has also played for Manchester City as a youngster, featuring prominently for the side’s reserve team but never making his City league debut. Instead, he had to seal a move away from the club to pursue regular first-team football, something he has now had in abundance with Celtic.

With that experience under his belt, Leverkusen are now ready to give him a go in the Bundesliga.

The player is in Germany having talks ahead of a proposed deal and, if the deal goes ahead, City are also set to profit. The English side have reportedly got a 30% sell-on clause for the player, meaning they’ll also receive some money from any potential deal.

Frimpong will be hoping that he can have the same kind of impact that many other youngsters trying their luck in Germany from England and Scotland have had previously – see Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham for example.
