Thiago Silva has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain‘s sacking of manager Thomas Tuchel was predictable. The Brazilian defender claims that he knew a change would become necessary at his former club, which he left to join Chelsea during last summer’s transfer window.
The 36-year-old was speaking after his side’s defeat by Manchester City in the Premier League. Former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been named as Tuchel’s successor at the Parc des Princes.

Silva, who captained PSG in last August’s Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich, made his comments when speaking to French broadcaster RMC Sport. “It is difficult but it was foreseeable that things were going to head that way,” the centre-back said of Tuchel’s sacking.
“Not now, but having been on the inside, we knew that there were situations that were going to need to be changed. In my opinion, [PSG Sporting Director] Leonardo took control of the situation, he made his choice. We don’t know if it was good, it was not at all for Tuchel and his staff. This change was not expected at this moment.”
Silva Has Backed Pochettino to Succeed in Paris
Silva also addressed the French champions’ decision to name Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager. The former AC Milan defender feels the Argentine’s experience of playing for PSG will stand him in good stead, as Pochettino has prior knowledge of the club and of French football.
“Mauricio Pochettino did good work with Tottenham, I think he is arriving very motivated, 20 years after having played for PSG,” Silva said of the new manager’s arrival.
“He knows the club a bit. Of course it has changed a lot but he knows football very well, he will work with players of the highest level. But I am still a PSG fan.”
A player for the club from 2000 to 2003, Pochettino took his first training session as PSG manager on Sunday. Les Parisiens currently sit third in the Ligue 1 table, and entertain Saint-Étienne on 6 January.
