Sheffield Wednesday Already Sacked Garry Monk This Campaign
The Owls have already let go of manager Garry Monk this campaign and put Pulis in charge of the club back in November. However, the former Stoke City boss has been unable to do much better than the man he replaced and with the side still sat in 23rd place in the Championship, the club have now parted ways with Pulis too.
They’ve won just one of their last ten league games and chairman Dejphon Chansiri claimed that the performances and results have ‘not been of the level expected’ since the boss took over.
‘Seven Points From a Possible 30 Is Not Acceptable’
In the full statement, the Sheffield Wednesday chairman claimed: “The performances and results have not been of the level expected since Tony Pulis was appointed. There are also other issues which have had a bearing on this decision.
“On the pitch, seven points from a possible 30 is not acceptable. It is vital we maintain our Championship status and I feel I must make a change now with over half of the season remaining to give us the best possible chance of doing so.”
Tony Pulis Sacked by Wednesday Despite Being Hired in November
The Owls of course suffered a points deduction at the beginning of the season which left them rock bottom of the league table. They’ve managed to accumulate 13 points so far but remain three points off 21st placed Rotherham, who also have two games in hand on the club.
Pulis was brought in to try and turn the tide of results for Wednesday but instead, the club have continued to struggle and remain in the Championship’s bottom three.
After the sacking of Tony Pulis, the Owls have also announced that first-team coach Neil Thompson will take charge of the first-team squad until the club are able to appoint a third new manager of the season. It also means that Thompson will be in charge for the club’s game tomorrow (December 29, 2020) against Middlesbrough.
