Alan Sheehan Extends Northampton Town Stay Until End of Season

Northampton Town defender Alan Sheehan has signed a contract extension at the club.

Sheehan has taken up a player/coach role in recent weeks, something he will continue to do.

The 34-year-old joined the club in October 2020 on a short-term contract and has extended his commitment to the club until the end of the season.

Sheehan to Continue Player/Coach Role

Impressed with Sheehan’s impact since his arrival, Keith Curle, manager of the League One club, said: “Alan has had a big impact at the club since his arrival.

“His experience, his knowledge and his leadership have all added to the squad, and we have invited him to join the coaching staff over the last weeks.

“But, he also has a key role as a player. I don’t think it is any coincidence that some of our best results over the last couple of months have come with Alan in the side, and he has helped us to a number of clean sheets in that time. We have missed his presence on the field in the last few games, but we are delighted he will remain with us for the rest of the season.”

Positive Impact

Sheehan has had a positive impact since joining Northampton Town. Comparing the results in games he has and has not played in only strengthen that claim.

Sheehan has contributed to three clean sheets since joining in October. In his seven League One appearances, Northampton have lost on just two occasions. However, with him absent from the squad in the past four league games, they have lost all of them, whilst also conceding 12 goals.

On that, and given his vast experience, it is of very little surprise that he has also taken up a coaching role at the club.
