With all of the new players Chelsea have brought in, including two centre-backs in Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr, naturally some of the defenders at the club will not see as much game time.
One of these is Fikayo Tomori, who, according to James Olley and Fabrizio Romano, will join Everton on a season-long loan in search of more playtime.

Very Promising Chelsea Centre-Back
Of the centre-halves currently at Chelsea, including Sarr, Tomori is by far the most promising. His incredible pace is a huge asset, and he is confident in possession as well.
Not to mention he has an eye for the spectacular, as shown by his long-range stunner against Wolves. Overall, Tomori is a talented defender who will have a great career at Stamford Bridge.
For now, though, he will hardly see the pitch after the arrival of Silva, who will be an instant starter. In terms of his development, this loan move makes perfect sense as Everton can offer him regular game time.
With Yerry Mina failing to impress, Tomori could play a similar role to Zouma at Everton two seasons ago. The increased playtime certainly galvanized the Frenchman, and it can do the same for the young Englishman.
Out of Favour in Second Half of the Season
While Tomori was struggling with a muscular injury since the restart, it is true that he seemed to fall out of favor with manager Frank Lampard.
After playing in the win over Arsenal in December, Tomori did not see the pitch until two months later, where he faced Bournemouth. They drew 2-2, and Tomori made some uncharacteristic errors leading to goals. That was his last game of the season.
Lampard certainly has the courage to drop players if he sees something he doesn’t like, and it looks like he did. Tomori was fit for the last five games of the season, as well as the cup matches, but never left the bench.
However, there is no way Lampard has given up on Tomori based on one game. Maybe it was enough, though, to convince him that he needed to go out on loan and iron out his mistakes.
If the young defender can start consistently at Everton and become a reliable option at centre-back, then Chelsea have made a promising move for their future.
Zouma improved when he was at Everton; now, according to reports, it’s time for Tomori to do the same.
