Piccini Will Become Atalanta’s Third Summer Signing

Atalanta manager Gianpiero Gasperini has been on the hunt for a new full back since Timothy Castagne’s departure was confirmed. It appears that Valencia full back Piccini is the man for him.

The Italian international would arrive from cash strapped Valencia and likely compete for the right wing back role in the Atalanta team. Piccini is a well-travelled full back having started his career at Fiorentina before playing for the likes of Real Betis, Sporting Lisbon and Valencia.

Injuries have disrupted his time at Valencia which saw him feature just twice in La Liga last season. However, a move back to Italy offers him a new start and a chance to reignite his career.

Should he join Gasperini’s team, he would become Atalanta’s third summer signing following the permanent capture of midfielder Mario Pašalić and attacking midfielder Aleksei Miranchuk.

Chance to Join a Prospering Team

Piccini will be joining an exciting Atalanta side gearing up for a title challenge in Serie A and a second consecutive Champions League campaign. Gasperini has them playing some magical football and Piccini should relish in this vibrant team.

Piccini will slot into the right wing back role and compete with Hans Hateboer for the starting role in the team. The Italian will also hope a return to his home nation will attract the attention of Roberto Mancini. Mancini is assessing all his options ahead of the Euros next year.

Valencia’s precarious financial situation means they are open to selling many of their first team stars. Piccini will be latest exit from the Mestalla with the club desperate for funds. Club captain Daniel Parejo has been their most notable departure so far, leaving for Valencia’s rivals Villarreal.

Valencia’s loss is Atalanta’s gain. Piccini is an excellent addition to an already exciting team.
