Much has been speculated about the future of Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte after recent outbursts in the media, however, the club have confirmed he has agreed to move forward in his role as manager.

Progress Made on the Pitch

On the pitch, all has appeared fine. Inter finished just one point short of Juventus and the Serie A title. They were Coppa Italia semi-finalists and Europa League runners-up.

Whilst the season has seen no silverware for the Nerazzurri, it has brought long-awaited progress in the famous black & blue outfit.

They now look like genuine contenders in Italy.

Would Not Have Been a Good Time for Conte Departure

It would have been a strange time to part ways, after such strong improvement from the team under the former Chelsea and Juventus boss.

The Italian coach’s departure would have left many wondering what might have been.

Especially after the exciting arrival of Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid. He’d previously shined alongside England international Jadon Sancho on Borussia Dortmund‘s right-hand side.

His relationship with Romelu Lukaku is of great value to the Italian side. The former Manchester United striker has been lethal upfront for Conte’s team in 2019/20 and his relationship with the manager, who wanted to take him to Chelsea before his move to Manchester, has always appeared unbreakable.

Conte’s departure would have left so much to be desired.

This Inter Milan side is going places and those at the club must do everything they can to keep Conte happy.

He may just be the key to bringing silverware back to the San Siro.

Champions League Chances Took a Blow With Europa Loss

After constructive talks, they have found some middle-ground ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, where Inter will again compete in the Champions League. They were knocked out in the group stages and placed into the Europa League last season.

The Europa League final loss to Sevilla was a setback for their chances in this year’s group stage.

A win would have seen them placed in pot one for the group stage draw in Athens, Greece on October 1. However, they are now likely to be placed in pot three, facing another potentially difficult group.

Reclaiming the Serie A Title

For now, though, Conte continues with Inter Milan and will look to guide them to further progress this year. He will be looking to take advantage of new Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo‘s lack of managerial experience and reclaim the Serie A title, something Inter haven’t lifted since 2010.
