Wherever 20-year-old Everton forward Moise Kean goes, he gets himself into trouble, and he’s at it once again. The Italian filmed himself on Snapchat partying during the Coronavirus lockdown, as reported by The Guardian and The Score. Everton, very unsurprisingly, are furious with the youngster they bought for £25 million less than a year ago.
Everton’s Moise Kean Throwing Away His Career
Wild Wild West
“The party was absolutely wild and went on until the early hours,” one source said to the Daily Star, with Kean reportedly hosting the party. According to The Mirror, a source described the party as “absolutely wild west.” Great. Exactly what Everton want to hear during the strict Coronavirus lockdown in England.
Kean himself posted a video of the party with the caption “Quarantine Clean”.
Everton Fuming Justifiably…Not for the First Time
Everton, however, didn’t enjoy Kean’s party as much as him. The club labelled his party “unacceptable” and criticized him publicly. The Toffees statement also said the club felt “appalled” and “disappointed” at the breach of the government restrictions.
“Everton has regularly stressed the importance of following all the Government guidelines. The amazing people in the NHS deserve the utmost respect for their hard work and sacrifice. The best way to show them respect is by doing everything we can to protect them” the club’s statement read.
The Toffees already had plenty of reasons to cut their losses and sell Kean at a loss this upcoming summer after just one single year. One goal in 26 matches across all competitions is striker sacrilege. Now, he’s pushing the envelope as a pain off the pitch as well. It’s going to be tough to convince a club to take a chance on him.
It’s very disappointing. Kean has been dubbed as “the new face of Italy” by Mark Doyle at Goal. He was expected to “light up [the] Premier League” by Paolo Bandini at The Guardian. He scored two goals in Euro 2020 qualifiers, with only three caps in total, all still as a teenager. Kean has been called a starlet, a prodigy, golden boy, and a miracle and yet, at 20-years-old, his career could be flaming out already.
Kean Already a Flop?
If this was Kean’s first disciplinary problem, it would blow over quickly. Besides, Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish broke government guidelines in recent weeks as well. However, Kean has a track record of poor discipline which means his tenure on the blue side of Mersey could come to a very quick end.
In November this season, then-Everton manager Marco Silva dropped Kean from the squad against Southampton for showing up late to a team meeting. That was, according to The Guardian, the second time the player suffered a time management mistake.
At the 2019 UEFA U21 Euros, Kean was benched in the group stage with reports suggesting showing up late as the cause again. Even back in 2017, Kean got sent home from Italy U19 duty for disciplinary reasons.
It’s been a downward 12 to 18 months for Kean, who didn’t play in any of Italy’s final eight qualifiers for Euro 2020. They only played ten in total. At Everton this season, he was an unused substitute more times than a starter in the Premier League.
There’s a reason Juventus sold someone so highly touted like Kean so cheaply. He’s ruining his career with his continued lack of discipline, and with only Inter Milan interested in him, Kean doesn’t have many options. He’s got no one to blame but himself.
Moise Kean is either a supremely overhyped player who will never reach the potential expected of him, or he’s astonishingly throwing his talent away – maybe both.
