Norwich City Face Tottenham Hotspur in FA Cup With Both Looking for Respite From Premier League Woes

FA Cup

Norwich City face Tottenham Hotspur as they go head to head for the third time this season in the FA Cup fifth round at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham are on a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions, whilst Norwich will be on a high after beating Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Miraculous Survival?

Norwich’s win over Leicester City has given them fresh hope that they can pull off a miracle and stay up this season. Winning breeds confidence and Daniel Farke’s men will surely bring that into this tie with Spurs. Norwich have played some good football at times this season but have been too goal-shy to get enough points on the board.

The Canaries preyed on Tottenham’s defensive frailties in the Premier League at Carrow Road over the festive period and were unlucky in January to lose 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, where Wednesday’s game takes place with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Tottenham are looking to win their first trophy since they won the League Cup in 2008. Jose Mourinho has won more trophies in that time and it is that record of winning that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be hoping he can bring to the club.

Squads Running on Empty

Timm Klose and Sam Byram have both been ruled out for Norwich and they don’t have a great deal of strength in depth to rely on. As the season gets nearer to its close, it could be an exhausting run for the club.

Tottenham are still struggling with a number of injuries. Harry Kane is hoped to be back playing before the end of the season but without him, Spurs are struggling to find the right balance up-front. In their last game, the home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs scored twice but the defence is leaking like the proverbial sieve.

Moussa Sissoko, Juan Foyth and Son Heung-min are all injured with doubts existing over Ryan Sessegnon, Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela.

FA Cup Prediction

Both teams will want to win this tie but Norwich’s priority has to be avoiding relegation. For Spurs they need a win, any win badly. Being knocked out at this stage would further damage an already disappointing season for the North London club.

Tottenham will just have too much for Norwich and will take the tie 2-1 after extra time.
