Lee Bowyer has made a dramatic U-turn to sign a new deal with Charlton Athletic. It was announced yesterday that the 42-year-old had not agreed on terms with owner Roland Duchatelet.

Lee Bowyer has signed a new deal to stay at The Valley; although, a day ago it seemed he would be leaving.
Bowyer guided the London club to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship by beating Sunderland in the Play-Off final; however, it was reported that he appeared unhappy with only being offered a one-year contract extension.
The 42-year-old has, though, made a dramatic U-turn and will guide the Addicks in the second-tier next season.
Bowyer told the Charlton club website: “We went on a real journey last season. The club came together – the players, the staff, the fans and we achieved something special,” he told the club’s official website.
“The journey hasn’t finished yet and I’m delighted this has all been agreed.
“This has been a long process and I never wanted to leave, I love this club. I’d like to thank the owner for giving me the initial opportunity and now for continuing to believe in me.
“We have a fantastic fan base here and my focus continues to be getting our squad in the best possible shape for the Championship next season.”
Owner’s Delight at Retaining Manager’s Service
Monday’s statement by Charlton stated Bowyer would not be offered a longer contract with Duchtelet set to sell the Addicks; however, Charlton’s Belgian owner admitted his pleasure at retaining Bowyer for next season.
“What Lee has achieved in his short time at the club is very impressive. He has united the club once again,” he told the club website.
“I would like to thank Lee for his professionalism during this process. While the negotiations have been ongoing, he has continued to work on building a squad for the club’s Championship campaign.
“Stability is essential and I am very pleased we now have the best man in place to lead us forward next season.”
