Brazil - 2026 World Cup Finals

Brazil Given World Cup Worry Before June 13 Opener

The 2026 World Cup is just around the corner, with Mexico vs South Africa kicking off the tournament on June 11. Brazil are always considered among the favourites for any competition they enter, and Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be eager to go far. In their final warm-up game before their June 13 opener against Morocco, Brazil faced Egypt and, despite winning, suffered a setback when an “important player” picked up an injury.

Seleção Suffer Wesley Injury Setback

Seleção wrapped up their 2026 World Cup preparations with a 2-1 win in Cleveland against fellow qualifiers Egypt. This was another win for Ancelotti’s men, who comfortably beat Panama 6-2 in Rio de Janeiro last Sunday at the Maracana Stadium.

Brazil started quickly against Egypt, with Bruno Guimaraes pressing Mohanad Lasheen into a mistake before finishing smartly to give his team the lead. A rare error from Marquinhos was punished by Mostafa Ziko, who drilled his shot past Alisson.

Seleção gradually began to dominate and create the better chances, with Shobeir making smart saves from Vinicius Jr and Raphinha.

A plethora of changes were made at half-time by Seleção, with Endrick entering the fray, and the teenager received a pass from Raphinha and finished well for the winning goal. It wasn’t vintage Brazil, but there were some clear positives to take from the 2-1 win.

Wesley Upset After Injury Setback

Early on in the friendly against Egypt, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad were dealt a setback ahead of their June 13 World Cup opener against Morocco, when Wesley had to leave the pitch early in the first half, after picking up an injury. He was clearly upset after leaving the game, fuelling speculation he would miss the 2026 World Cup. However, Ancelotti spoke after the game regarding Wesley’s condition:

“We have to wait until tomorrow for the diagnosis. I think he’ll have time to recover and be with us at this World Cup. Otherwise, we’ll have to choose someone else, and we have time to do that. We’ll carry out the imaging tests. It’s urgent, it worries us. He’s an important player, he plays to the top of his game, with power.

“He’s learned a lot about the things he wasn’t so good at—defending, marking—now in Italy. I hope it’s nothing serious, that he receives the necessary treatment, and that he can continue with us on this journey. But I don’t deny that there’s urgency and concern; if it were to be something serious, it would be a shame.”

It remains to be seen if Wesley will recover in time for the first game, but despite the player’s initial reaction to the injury, Ancelotti appears somewhat optimistic he will be back soon for Seleção.
