Nuno Espírito Santo Has a ‘Clear Idea’ What West Ham Need to Do in January

West Ham have endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 season, with Graham Potter in charge at the beginning of the season, before he was replaced by Nuno Espírito Santo. The club currently sits in 18th position in the league and will be looking to improve the squad in the January transfer window.

Nuno recently spoke about the need to improve the West Ham squad ahead of a vital second half of the season.

West Ham Needs to Strengthen in January

Nuno Has a ‘Clear Idea’ What West Ham Require

West Ham are four points adrift of safety at the end of 2025, and are in need of reinforcements to help the club survive in the Premier League. The need for reinforcements has been recognised by Nuno Espírito Santo, who has used some of the club’s best youngsters in recent weeks, including in the 2-2 draw against Brighton, where he started with Oliver Scarles and Freddie Potts, and used 18-year-old Ezra Mayers and Mohamadou Kante, 20, as substitutes.

Nuno Discusses West Ham’s January Plans

Nuno has been happy with the younger players’ performances, but he has made it clear that the squad needs to be strengthened:

“I am pleased for the young players, because they’re helping,” he said.

“But it’s also clear that, in terms of squad, we need to rebalance our squad. We need to make the right moves in a very difficult transfer window to operate.

“But we need to, so we can improve and have more options for the second half of the season.

“I have a clear idea about everything. I have a clear idea, because this is our job. It’s up to us to pass information to the club, so the club is aware of what we need.

“It’s coming in a couple of days. The reflection is clear, so the sooner the better,” said Nuno.

What do West Ham need? Is Nuno the right man for the job? It’s clear West Ham needs a big second half to the 2025/26 season.
