How Gaming Helps Ruud Gullit Reach a New Generation

Team Gullit is an esports academy founded in 2018 and co-founded by former Dutch football icon Ruud Gullit. The venture specialises in the game EA FC (formerly FIFA), and looks to scout promising players worldwide and offers structured training, coaching, performance support, and personal-brand development. It looks to help individuals progress into top competitive athletes. Team Gullit was acquired by major esports organisation Team Liquid earlier this year, while continuing under its umbrella and developing the best talents.

When discussing the success of his esports team, Gullit said:

“Yes, we have done well, we won two World Cups and a Champions League. I’m not so much involved anymore because it has been sold. But I remember my management, Corin. She says to me, I didn’t wanna make an avatar of you in a video game and I said, okay, do we have to do it? “Yeah It’s good to do it.” So we went to Cologne with the launch of it, never ever expecting that it would be that big, right? And that my avatar would be doing so well.

“So now everybody wants to play with me and that is nice because for that reason you have some sort of a second career, the youngsters never saw you playing and then when they see me in the game, they want to look at me on YouTube and they say, hey, he’s not that bad.”

Gullit Discusses What Makes His EA FC Card So Strong

Gullit also discussed how his exceptional playing career has helped him have such a good card:

“I think so, but also because I played so many different positions. Right winger, striker, midfielder, central defender. So I can do anything and you can see that also in the game and that’s nice. So, yeah, I’m happy with my cards and I’m happy with the fact that the youth keep on  remembering me through the game,” added Gullit.
