In a season that continues to spiral, Leicester City suffered their third consecutive defeat at the weekend. Valerien Ismael’s Blackburn Rovers perfectly foiled Marti Cifuentes’ plan, as City once again struggled to find the net. The defeat means the Foxes have won just one game since August, whilst picking up a measly total of eight points from nine games. Therefore, here is the Leicester predicted lineup as they face yet another tough challenge in the form of second-placed Middlesbrough.
Leicester Predicted Lineup vs Middlesbrough
How Leicester City Have Lined Up Recently
In the clash against Rovers, Cifuentes once again made tweaks in a bid to find form. One of the only players to have kept their head high after the recent form was Jakub Stolarczyk, as he continued to make crucial saves. The centre-back partnership of Caleb Okoli and Jannik Vestergaard was another constant, as Wout Faes remains on the bench. Similarly, Ricardo Pereira, in the inverted role, also kept Hamza Choudhury out of the starting eleven against Blackburn. However, the only change to the backline came at left-back, where Victor Kristiansen replaced Luke Thomas for the first time this season.

With Aaron Ramsey’s injury, Boubakary Soumaré once again featured alongside Harry Winks in the double pivot. Subsequently, with no Ramsey or Louis Page available, Jordan James returned to the unfamiliar number 10 role, a position that former manager Tony Mowbray feels is ‘too advanced’ for him. Whilst Abdul Fatawu did remain on the right, Stephy Mavididi started on the left as Jeremy Monga dropped out due to illness. With Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka leading the line in City’s two previous defeats, Julian Carranza came back into the side up top.
Leicester City’s Recent Form And Tactics
With yet another defeat, it becomes more and more challenging to see the positives in this Leicester side. They currently sit 14th in the league, and with a looming points deduction, the issues could become even more dire. Eight points from nine is relegation form, and with performances like the one at the weekend, it’s hard to see where City get points from. Even in the home games, Leicester struggles as they haven’t won at King Power Stadium in 66 days. Therefore, with the club at a crisis point, what needs to change?

Against Rovers, it was more of the same. In the first half, the Foxes boasted a total of 63% possession and managed to create plenty of chances as Mavididi and James both came close. The combinations between Fatawu and either James or Pereira in the half space worked well, and ultimately helped alleviate the pressure off the Ghanian. However, finishing let City down, and the visitors made them pay for their own opportunities. With transitions being City’s hamartia, it’s no surprise that the opener came from a disjointed backline, where Caleb Okoli was forced to spread out wide to cover Pereira. The low cross wasn’t dealt with and was met by Andri Gudjohnsen, who capitalised on Soumaré’s unfortunate block.
Likewise, in the second half, Leicester continued to plug away, but still couldn’t find the net. Three big chances were missed, and it was Ismael’s side, who were once again much more clinical as Gudjohnsen made it a brace just after the hour mark. Boo’s and chants of ‘Marti sort it out’ rang around the stadium, and it’s no surprise after another dismal performance.

Leicester look open at the back constantly, and gives any side opportunities to score. In comparison, up front, there is a real struggle to find goals. Mavididi is in poor form, having missed multiple chances against Coventry and now against Blackburn. Likewise, Carranza, Daka and Ayew have a combined tally of just one goal this season. The lack of a clinical number nine is punishing Leicester for another summer of lacklustre business.
Leicester City Injuries to Consider
As confirmed by the Spaniard, injuries will affect City’s squad for this weekend’s clash. Following an injury against Millwall, Ramsey will remain sidelined for the next few weeks. Furthermore, Monga didn’t feature against Blackburn, having missed out on training all last week. However, Cifuentes is hoping he will be ready for the Tuesday night clash against Boro.
