Scotland Predicted Lineup Vs Belarus for September 8

Scotland face Belarus in a World Cup qualifier match in Group C on September 8. The fixture takes place behind closed doors at the ZTE Stadium in Hungary, as Belarus are currently banned by UEFA from staging matches in their own country. Meanwhile, Denmark and Greece also compete, as the four battle it out for a place in the top two: first place gets an automatic place in the tournament, whilst second place heads to the next qualification stage. Here is our Scotland predicted lineup vs Belarus.

Scotland Predicted Lineup Vs Belarus in World Cup Qualifier

How Scotland Have Lined-up Recently

Against Denmark, Scotland lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Angus Gunn started in goal, with captain Andy Robertson at left-back. Grant Hanley and John Souttar started as centre-backs, with Aaron Hickey starting at right-back in his first international match in almost two years.

Scott McTominay and Lewis Ferguson held down the fort as central midfielders. Two more central midfielders featured in the starting lineup, though in wide areas. John McGinn played on the right, whilst Ryan Christie played on the left. Bournemouth’s number ten has thrived under Andoni Iraola as a box-to-box midfielder, but has arguably been wasted on the wing under Steve Clarke, with criticism coming his way.

Che Adams played just behind centre-forward Lyndon Dykes.

Scotland’s Recent Form

A performance with 26% possession and zero big chances created may look dismal, but a 0-0 draw against Denmark is a huge result in Scotland’s bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Danes are the clear favourites for Group C, and a point against them could be crucial as Clarke’s side aim to finish at least second, ahead of Belarus and Greece (the latter being the more difficult task).

Furthermore, keeping a clean sheet bodes well for their future. Denmark didn’t batter Scotland: the home side created an expected goals of 1.20 compared to the away side’s 0.62.

Scotland Injuries and Absentees to Consider

Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston pulled out of the squad ahead of the Denmark game, despite both playing against rivals Rangers in the match prior for their club. Josh Doig was called up in their place.
