Chelsea Attacker Could Depart – European Giant Values His Versatility

The 2024/25 season ended on a high note for Chelsea, with the club qualifying for the Champions League and beating Real Betis 4-1 to win the Europa Conference League. It’s been a busy transfer window so far, with Enzo Maresca’s men still eyeing moves for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. Florian Plettenberg is now reporting that Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku could depart Stamford Bridge, with Bayern Munich admirers of his versatility.

Life at Chelsea Looks Good Again

Christopher Nkunku Could Depart for Bayern Munich

After some inconsistent seasons following the departure of Roman Abramovich, Chelsea, under the ownership of BlueCo, appear to be heading in the right direction. After their memorable ending to the 2024/25 campaign, they moved on to the Club World Cup and won the competition, while playing with a noticeable swagger in the knockout stages, culminating in them blowing away current Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain 3-0.

Florian Plettenberg has previously revealed that Chelsea need to finalise some departures before Simons can move to Stamford Bridge, meaning a deal between the West London club and Bayern Munich for Nkunku remains a possibility until deadline day. Bayern’s interest in Nick Woltemade could also affect their interest in the Frenchman. The club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is said to appreciate the versatility that Nkunku offers. Chelsea are said to want a permanent departure for the 27-year-old.

Chelsea Transformation

Chelsea attackers were often frustrating last year, with even Cole Palmer suffering from a loss of form in the second half of the season. Maresca and the club have made it clear they want to transform their attacking department. Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Estevao have all joined the club for the 2025/26 season, offering them a plethora of attacking options.

If the club also sign Garnacho and Simons, they will have plenty of options to attack each competition with intent. Should Chelsea make these last two signings, can they push Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all the way? If not, what else do they need?
